Creating an invoice

Creating an invoice in Parsley Pay is straightforward. Before you start, make sure you've added at least one customer to your account — invoices must be assigned to a customer.

Step 1: Start a new invoice

From your dashboard, click New Invoice. You can also navigate to Invoices in the sidebar and click the New Invoice button there.

Step 2: Select a customer

Choose the customer this invoice is for from the dropdown. The customer's name and billing address will appear on the invoice automatically. If you haven't added the customer yet, go to Customers and create them first.

Step 3: Set the invoice details

  • Invoice number — automatically generated in sequence (e.g. MT-0001), but you can edit it.
  • Issue date — defaults to today.
  • Due date — when payment is expected. This appears prominently on the invoice.
  • Currency — defaults to the currency set on the customer's record, but can be overridden per invoice.
  • Memo — an optional note that appears at the bottom of the invoice, such as payment terms or a thank-you message.

Step 4: Add line items

Add one or more line items to describe the work or products being billed:

  • Description — a short description of the item or service.
  • Quantity — the number of units.
  • Unit price — the price per unit.

The line item total and invoice total are calculated automatically. Click Add line item to add more rows.

Step 5: Save or send

When you're done, you have two options:

  • Save as draft — saves the invoice without sending it. You can come back to edit and send it later.
  • Send now — saves the invoice and immediately emails it to your customer with a payment link.

Invoice numbers

Invoice numbers follow the format MT-XXXX and increment automatically. You can customise the number on any invoice before sending it — for example, to continue a sequence from a previous system.
